1. What were the events that led to Ivan’s arrest ?

Despite his protests of innocence, no one believed him. The police considered the evidence too strong and arrested him. His appeals and cries were ignored, and eventually he was falsely convicted and sent to Siberia, where he spent 26 years in prison.
